Huntsville, AL — October 31, 2025 — The Ordinary People Society (T.O.P.S.) and the North Alabama Collective are bringing Alabama communities together for a powerful day of prayer, praise, and truth-telling during a community screening of the newly released HBO documentary The Alabama Solution on Friday, November 22 at 11:00 AM. The screening will take place at Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1919 Brandontown Road, Huntsville, AL 35816.

The event will include a Healing Circle and Grocery Giveaway, along with access to free restoration and reentry resources. Partners include National Bail Out, Lift Our Vote, AL Non-Violent Offenders Organization, Black Voters Matter, Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church Prison Ministries, Huntsville/ Madison County NAACP, Northeast Region AL Arise, and Alabama Values.

The Alabama prison system has long been recognized as one of the most dangerous in the nation. The Alabama Solution brings viewers inside the walls of the Alabama Department of Corrections, documenting violence, abuse, overcrowding, and inhumane living conditions. The film highlights incarcerated Alabamians risking their lives to expose the truth.

Advocates emphasize that this moment demands more than empathy.

“They risked their lives to show us the truth. We can’t stop at compassion. We owe them action. So let’s not just sit in outrage. We must now stand together in action.”

— Tamela Glover, Alabama Arise Regional Organizer

Faith leaders are calling on churches to help lead that action.

“They may be locked up behind prison walls, but they are never locked out from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Alabama Solution exposes in real time the courage of inmates who document the violence, abuse, and inhumane living conditions within the ADOC. As disciples of Christ, the church has a responsibility to stand for prison reform. This is our call to action.”

— Rev. Dr. Earl Robinson, Jail & Prison Minister, Progressive Union M.B. Church

Movement organizers say that change will not come from silence.

“Change is never born from comfort. It rises from those who stand in the fire and refuse to be silent. The time has come to shatter the mental, emotional, and systemic chains that sustain injustice, and to demand a world where truth and equity are no longer optional, but owed.”

— Dynasty Chapman, Program Coordinator, Pretty Rocks The Vote

Civic leaders are also highlighting the intersection between prison reform and voter empowerment.

The Alabama Solution captures the inhumane conditions in Alabama’s prisons and forces us to confront what too many have ignored. Every person deserves humane treatment, and those returning home deserve support that nurtures restoration, not just release. Every issue, including human rights for those incarcerated, is a voting issue.”

— Jessica Fortune Barker, Lead Organizer,  Lift Our Vote

Why This Matters

Alabama’s prisons remain under federal investigation and court order because of preventable deaths, rampant violence, and the lack of accountability for correctional abuse. Families, faith communities, lawmakers, and organizers continue pushing for reforms that honor basic human dignity.

This screening serves as a community-driven step toward healing, deeper understanding, and building collective power to demand change.
